  • PSP Carlisle has gun locks available for free, in order to promote gun safety.  Please call in and schedule an appointment with a firearms instructor for a free gun lock.
  • With school back in session, watch for stopping and slowing school buses.  Expect that they are activating stop lights and give ample distance to slow down in time.
  • When stopping for a traffic control device, make sure to stop at the white line if painted on the roadway, or areas indicated by signage.  This is especially important for traffic light cycling – as some issues were raised due to vehicles not stopping where indicated, causing lights to not cycle properly.
  • Parents teaching their children to drive are encouraged to utilize technology.  Applications such as “RoadReady” allow parents to track driving time easily, for their child.
  • When a crime was discovered to have been committed against you, do not wait several weeks or months in order to report it – as this severely lowers the likelihood of solving the crime.
  • When driving on the interstate, it is a good practice to make room for vehicles entering the roadway from onramps (if room is available).  However, it is still the duty of the operator merging onto the interstate to yield to vehicles already present on the interstate.
  • When driving on the interstate, pay attention to traffic patterns such as brake lights of vehicles in the distance, or a police vehicle on the shoulder.  This is indicative of an incident or crash ahead, and by slowing gradually, will lessen the chance of a secondary crash.
  • Please make sure that your house number is clearly visible from the street.  This helps emergency responders find your residence during an emergency.
  • Please be aware of purple lights or flags labeled “Funeral”. This is a funeral procession, and the procession is permitted the right-of-way to continue through intersections once the first car has gone through.
  • The secret to not getting a speeding ticket is to drive the speed limit.
  • If getting stopped by a police officer, pull over as far off the road as safely possible.  If a parking lot is close by, activating your hazards and slowly driving into the parking lot is an accepted practice. If you are in the left lane and are getting pulled over, DO NOT pull onto the left side of the road.  Move to the right lane, then subsequently onto the right shoulder.
  • When passing a medical incident, fire, crash, traffic stop, or other incident near the road, do not take pictures of the incident while driving.  This is considered Careless Driving and is illegal. Also, do not stop on the roadway, as other drivers will not be expecting you to slow or stop, because they may be driving to look at the incident as well, causing additional crashes and emergencies.
  • PSP Carlisle offers car seat installations and checks.  Please call to schedule an appointment.
